The Need for Psychiatric Social Work in India

Abstract

HE aim of this article is to highlight two significant aspects of the practice of psychiatric social work in India. First, it seeks to examine the role of a social worker in the total institutional process of mental hospital organisation on the basis of certain first-hand data. Secondly, it may throw some light on the present position and future horizons of this nascent professional discipline in a country which has embarked upon developmental plans amidst staggering problems of its poor and ignorant masses.
