A parent education program for fathers of school-aged children was developed and evaluated. The program used a systematic skills approach, focussing on communication skills. The program was found to result in an improvement in fathers' communication skills-specifically, a significant increase in their overall sensitivity and a significant reduction in their use of undesireable responses. Significantly more experimental than control group children perceived positive changes in their relationships with their fathers. An assessment of the family concepts of mothers and fathers indicated that experimental group fathers changed their views of the ideal family.
