:The literature review indicates support for the benefits of the structured use of clay in art therapy with older adults. This research aimed to extend these findings to the unstructured use of clay. The guiding questions were: “does the unstructured use of clay in art therapy sessions benefit older adults?” and “does this have the potential to improve quality of life?” Four female older adult participants attended art therapy sessions, and were then interviewed about their experiences. Results demonstrated support for both research questions. Limitations of this study are discussed, as well as implications and suggestions for future research.
