Abstract

The setting up of Commission V 'Cartographic Communication' by the International Cartographic Association in Ottawa in 1972 reflected the growth of world-wide interest in the subject and has led to a stock-taking of, and given encouragement to research into the effectiveness of maps as devices for communicating information.
