Employers’ interest representation has developed in the Czech Republic since 1989 as an element in the developing political system. Although set in the context of business interest representation in developed market economies, there are two important differences: first, the fluidity of interest representation, and of government responses; second, the influence of the formal tripartite structure that gives shape and legitimacy to much of the employers’ side, bringing together agriculture, construction, much of the public sector and services, small entrepreneurs and large‐scale industry. However, each has developed distinct means to press interests, depending on the willingness of members to take collective action, the ability to wield a threat against the government, and the willingness of policy‐makers to respond. Diversity in methods and significance of representation, including informal alongside formal channels, is expected to continue.
