Capacity Building for Demand-led Research: Issues and Priorities

Abstract

At the international seminar ‘Demanding Innovation’, held in Maastricht, the Netherlands, in October 20012, the participants concluded that conventional research is inadequate to bring about sustainable development in the South due to the prevalence of Northern paradigms and the neglect of development issues and needs in the South. Thus the use of knowlegde as power becomes significant. Presently there is an asymmetry in this use in favour of the North.
