Abstract

The purpose of scientific enquiry is the production and dissemination of original knowledge. In return, scholars require recognition for their efforts if they are to enjoy access to the resources that will enable them to continue their work. Has the electronic journal been accepted as a legitimate vehicle for disseminating scholarly thought? The study suggests that measurable negative response is minimal, although scholars who have published electronically believe that there is a widespread perception that electronic publication is less significant than print publication.
