CRISTOPHE BROCHIER Class Relations and Negotiations on the Job in the Brazilian Construction Industry The daily operations in some brazilian building sites are analyzed by directly observing workers interactions instead of technical systems. Three main dimensions are taken into account: class relations, ethnical relations and functional positions in the organization. It is shown that despise and miscomprehension emerge from oppositions related to these dimensions. It creates situations of tense but prudent relations where negotiation, very often half hidden, and avoidments of encounters play an important role in the prevention of conflicts.
