This article examines the profile of 466 recipients of a work support program. It shows the high prevalence of multistressors among low-earning families, including low education, single parenthood, health and mental health problems, criminal history, and children's health and behavior problems. Cluster and regression analyses identified different types of multistressed families and showed a statistically significant relationship between the most disadvantaged cluster and lower economic performance. The findings imply that emphasis on work in current policy needs to be complemented with greater assistance to overcome barriers to employment.
