The extent to which an individual’s projections may be determined by group membership and sociocultural factors as well as by personal idiosyncratic factors has had little systematic study. It seems reasonable to assume that there will be “consistent differences between the fantasy productions of individuals who belong to, or have been socialized in, different social groups. Thus, a certain amount of the variation in any TAT production can be accounted for by the fact that the individual has grown up in a given milieu or social role” (108, p. 16). Henry (77) found that there were systematic differences between the fantasy productions (TAT stories) of Hopi and Navaho children which reflected important differences between their cultures.
