Translation (with an index) of a 10th-century Georgian hagiographical text about the monk Grigol (759-861), who with the help of the Bagratide family contributed to the renewal of Georgian monastic life through the foundation of the monasteries of Xancta and Šat'berdi, in the K'larjeti region in the vicinity of Byzantine Chaldaea. The introduction identifies the places and the principal characters quoted in the text and studies the political terminology used. In the next issue of the Revue, this translation will be followed by a commentary which will bring out the importance of a text fundamental to the understanding of the close relations built in the 9th-century Georgian world between political circles, monasteries and ecclesiastical institutions.
