In the October 1950 issue of this Review Professor Philip Taft utilized the occasion of the republication of Professor Selig Perlman's A Theory of the Labor Movement (originally published in 1928; reprint edition 1949) to place Professor Perlman's views in the context of the development of theories of the American labor movement. The article by Professor Sturmthal is a reconsideration of Perlman's views of the labor movement in Europe, with special consideration of the role of the intellectuals in that movement.
