Abstract

A Reading of Beowulf by Edward B. Irving, Jr. and published originally in 1958 by Yale University Press, is reissued here in 1999 after spending many years out of print. Professor Paul Thomas, the Managing Director of The Chaucer Studio, re-edited and revised this edition, and Professor Katherine O’Brien O’Keefe adds a new preface. An appendix written by Professor Don W. Chapman gives an overview of Beowulf scholarship since Irving’s work first appeared.
