This article reports the findings of a project report ‘A survey of the information needs of Arabic speaking migrants in two areas of Sydney’ which was submitted in 1984 as a part requirement for a masters degree at the University of New South Wales. The report investigated the sources of information currently being utilized by Arabic speaking migrants and attempted to find out why these sources are used in preference to other sources. A further aim of the study was to identify areas of information needs of Arabic speaking migrants in Australia. The areas of Sydney chosen for the study were Parramatta and Ryde as the 1976 Census figures revealed a significant number of Arabic migrants living in these areas. All Arabic speaking migrants are included in the study and these include Egyptians, Lebanese, Jordanians, Syrians, Iraquis and Palestinians.
