New methods are described to treat contemporary paintings without touching or damaging their delicate surfaces. These methods can be reversed without difficulty or hazard to the paintings: The following three paintings were selected: (1) Karel Appel, oil on canvas, 129·6 × 195cm, high impasto still soft—vacuum lined without a membrane on a standard vacuum hot table, using a method which can be easily adapted by any conservation studio; (2) Enzo Cucchi, oil on canvas, 280 × 360cm, very heavy impasto, which had suffered a 34·7cm-longtear—lined using a newly developed contact adhesive, Beva-Gel®, on Scapa polyester monofilament fabric;(3) Red Grooms, soluble crayons (pastel) on five sheets of heavy-gage, textured artists' paper, each 264·2 × 152·4cm (total size 264·2 × 762cm)—mounted with Beva® 371 Film and Velcro on aspecially prepared support.
