Procedures for processing data digitized from maps are discussed. The aim of these is to uniquely define any detail, linear or areal, present on the maps in terms of state coordinates, thus providing a tool for the formation of a planimetric data base.In spite of the fact that a planimetric map is actually a net of intersecting lines, the proposed procedures are based on considering discrete points, an approach which contributes to the overall efficiency of processing the data.A number of examples illustrate the discussed methods.
