Family Redefinition

Abstract

The focus of this paper is to identify factors related to the process of divorce adjustment. Adjustment is considered from the perspective of the family members and conceptualized as a process of family redefinition. The available literature on divorce adjustment is thoroughly discussed in order to delineate the variables that influence family redefinition. The six stations of divorce described by Paul Bohannan (1970) were adapted to formulate areas of family redefinition. A model is presented that integrates the findings of the literature with the process of family redefinition.
