The first two factors previously isolated by Kear-Colwell (1973, 1977) in the Wechsler Memory Scale were replicated in a sample of individuals (N = 116) drawn from the general population, which served to validate their reliability and use in the clinical setting. Due to lack of variance Factor III was not replicated clearly. In terms of performance on the actual test, a highly significant difference was found between the performance of the older and the younger individuals; particularly in those aspects of memory that involved the learning and immediate recali of complex new information. Social Class and memory performance also were found to be linked very significatly in a linear relationship. Females were found to be significantly more subject to distractibility on this test, although otherwise the male/female differences were non-significant. The performance of this sample was also compared with that of Wechsler's original standardization sample.
