This study explored the relationship between academic mentoring behaviors and the organizational socialization of new faculty members within the communication discipline. Participants included 259 faculty members from the National Communication Association. Results indicated that mentors' tendencies to provide support and encouragement, a sense of collegiality, and research assistance are related to an organizational newcomer's feelings of connectedness and ownership with the work environment. Overall, the results suggested that the benefits of mentoring are reciprocal and benefit the institution as well as the prot\'eg\'e.
