Abstract

Journalism has all of organised life, all of society, as its sphere of operation. There is no major institution, and few large organisations, that remain untouched by the reporting of journalists. Only the public police and social scientists share with journalists this total organisational field of operation. (Ericson, Baranek and Chan, 1987: 15)
