Nineteen children with motor co‐ordination problems were compared to a group of 19 well‐co‐ordinated children on cognitive, social, and physical subscales as well as general self‐esteem. They were selected from a sample of 360 fourth‐graders (10 year‐olds). The results showed that it was only in the physical domain that a significant difference was found. Thus, children with motor co‐ordination problems clearly perceive themselves as being poorer in sports and outdoor games than well‐co‐ordinated children. The results also revealed that the difference was no larger than could be explained by differences in actual performance.
