The article on Bernini's memorial to Maria Raggi, in S. Maria sopra Minerva in Rome, presents a summary of the nun's life (1552–1600), and facts about the men who, according to the inscription, were responsible for the memorial. This information, combined with documentary evidence, suggests a revised dating of the monument. A papier-mâché version and a preparatory drawing are discussed; both are shown to relate to the legend of Maria Raggi. Finally, the memorial is compared, on stylistic and iconographic levels, with other works, mainly by Bernini.
