When Professor Selig Perlman's A Theory of the Labor Movement was published in 1928, labor relations in the United States were on a simpler level than they are in 1950. Whether or not Professor Perlman's insights were conditioned by the history of the American labor movement up to 1928 and are no longer relevant unless modified in some serious respects is one of the questions with which persons working in the field of labor relations theories are vitally concerned. Professor Perlman's book has left an indelible impression on a generation of teachers and trade union personnel. The republication of his book provides an occasion for a rereading and reconsideration of Professor Perlman's point of view. (Author's abstract courtesy EBSCO.)
