Abstract

Selecting materials for preservation is a task of critical importance, since such selections will determine in large measure which of the documents now held by research libraries will be available to readers of the future. This paper offers several ideas in regard to utility as a factor in the selection of materials for preservation, with specific emphasis upon the idea that utility should be the decisive factor in that process.
