Greece has been the destination of large numbers of economic migrants from Albania and Eastern European Countries since the 1980s. This study is based onfieldwork concerning the current spatial practices of three different groups of migrants: Albanians, Poles and Ukrainians in three of the main settlements on Santorini, a Greek island in the Cyclades which is currently on the front line of migration. This paper examines the migrants' settling-in process and place-making; whether there are distinctive places that reflect their experiences; the typologies of domestic spaces they occupy; how local vernacular built forms are adopted or changed to accommodate their social and cultural needs; and whether these places reveal cultural transformation or translocation.
