A STUDY ON IDENTIFYING THE TIME OF A STEP CHANGE DISTURBANCE WITH S CONTROL CHARTS AND MLE METHOD

Abstract

The main function of the SPC charts is to monitor the process. Once the out of control signal is triggered, a search for the root cause of the process disturbance has been initiated. It is easier and quicker to gain process quality when the assignable causes have been eliminated. This study uses the maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) method to estimate the starting time of a step change disturbance. Statistical properties of these estimators are discussed. This study shows the fruitful results for monitoring a variability change with the proposed approaches through a series of simulation.
