Our analysis of the way rivers become heritage is based on a comparison of two UNESCO World Heritage sites: the Val de Loire (France) and the Kadisha Valley (Lebanon). This paper seeks to highlight the spatial and temporal (dis)continuities for stakeholders in the implementation of the two projects. It situates the management of these sites within the territorial dynamics around them. This twin perspective on patrimonialization and territorialization provides insights into the issues and conflicts that drive the management and conservation of natural and cultural resources of both countries.
