There has been little research on styles of parenting among parents of young gifted children. This lack of information about parenting styles makes it difficult to develop an effective parent component for preschool progress for the gifted. This study compared the attitudes, values, and behavior of 39 parents of young gifted and nongifted children. The results indicated that while there were many similarities among these two groups of upper‐middle‐class parents, parents of the gifted tended to spend considerably more time with their child on school related activities, they were more likely to report unconditional love for their child while being more willing to encourage their child to be independent.
