Advanced Statistical Process Monitoring Statistical Methods and Applications Fault Detection and Control Systems

Abstract

Multivariate process control procedures based on simultaneous univariate control charts have been suggested by several authors. These procedures are very sensitive to the direction of a process shift. We present a simple geometrical description of this directional sensitivity and quantify its effect. The advantages of control charts based on the principal components are noted. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
