Making International Journals Truly International

Abstract

Let academics in developing countries shine in the international publishing community. A suggestion that they should target their own local journals would mean that their best research would reach only a limited audience, that they would probably be poorly regarded by promotion committees, that they would be unfavourably appraised by international grant-awarding agencies, and, in all probability, that publication would follow only after an inordinately long wait.
