greg forter is Assistant Professor of English at the University of South Carolina, Columbia. He is the author of Murdering Masculinities:Fantasies of Gender and Violence in the American Crime Novel (New York University Press, 2000) and is currently engaged in a project about gender,capitalist modernity, and strategies of mourning in American modernism.
