Abstract

From the conception to the completion of building a successful cartographic online product, designing the presentation of information is an essential task. User-centred cartographic information architecture, the purposeful structuring of spatial-related information in the sense of an 'architecture of information' is a key issue in developing an interactive mapping system. These considerations have been followed in the development of the 'ÖROK-Atlas online', the Web-based version of the 'ÖROK Atlas on spatial development in Austria', one of Austria's most acknowledged thematic map series.
