Elder Abuse and Neglect Aging, Elder Care, and Social Issues Child Abuse and Trauma

Abstract

Specialized programs to handle incidences of elder abuse often are put forward as the solution to this problem. Elder abuse, however, is not clearly defined, affects relatively small numbers of older persons, is an under-funded area of social service and has weak political support. Although existing criminal statutes may be adequate for criminal abuse situations, a broad based service strategy for older persons is needed.
