Programmed composition of psychological test reports by selecting more than 100 statements separately and printing them in sequence yielded reports with abrupt transitions, redundancies, and contradictions. Statistical, logical, and semantic problems demanded solution, and continual reprogramming was done. Some statements were rewritten to avoid contradictions and to make discrepancies meaningful. Rules for choosing connecting particles were written. Methods were devised to modify scores to reduce variance of irrelevant or undesired source. More “reconciling statements” based on combinations of scores were added. The improved program writes smoother reports with fewer internal contradictions.
