This paper discusses the present preoccupation about meaning attribution to the "development" idea. First, it reconstructs the theoretical itinerary that was responsible for the crisis of the prevailing conception associated to urbanindustrialism. Then, leaving from a supposed post-modern scenery context, this paper presents an inventory of ideas that affects the development notionnowadays. So, through these ideas, the paper demonstrates the possible conditions to formulate a speech that defends a main role to “local” or “localist” dynamics in the contemporaneous strategies of development.
