Demand responsive transport systems (DRTS) have been trialled in rural Germany as part of the MOBINET (Mobility in the conurbation of Munich) and MOB2 (Integration of private transport in public transport in rural areas). The features of DRTS are outlined. The strategy is based on the obligatory registration of every passenger in order to adjust the route according to the actual demand. There are four operational forms: line operation (one to one), band operation (few to one), sector operation (many to one) and area operation (many to many). Management of the operative progression is discussed. Details are given of the implementation of DRTS in the MOBINET project in Erding and the MOB project in the County of Bentheim. The system technology is briefly outlined.
