This paper is a brief introduction to the phenomenon of petroglyphs found in limestone caves in Australia. It details the main types of apparently non-utilitarian rock markings found in these caves, and it discusses their chronology and their protection. A representative list of publications is also provided, for a more detailed and comprehensive perusal of this complex and still inadequately explored phenomenon.
