Electronic Journals: Scholarly Invariants in a Changing Medium

Abstract

Electronic media will capture a large share of scholarly publication over the next five years. We must discover how to preserve the fundamental values of publication while the form of the medium changes. The success of a journal editoris measured by the continuing attention of readers. The best electronic publication formats will display as clearly as possible the organizational structure of the text as paragraphs, sections, and so forth, rather than the geometric look of printed pages. For electronic publishing to progress successfully, participants are urged to think ideally, but act opportunistically.
