Abstract

This collection of specially commmissioned contributions by a team of geographers and archaeologists is the first to consider past cultures from both the geographical and the archaeological points of view. The wide array of subjects covered ranges from landscape archaeology to industrial archaeology, preservation and conservation. Other topics include pre-subsistence farming, the palaeo-environment, rural and urban settlements and the development of states and empires.
