In this work, we examine the Revista de Psicologia General y Aplicada, since its creation in 1946 until 1955. This is the first decade of the first Spanish journal of psychology, whose editor was Jose Germain. The period studied comprises the European postwar years after the Second World War. This period represented a stage of involution and was characterized by a huge devastation of not only human lives but also infrastructures, buildings and monuments. However, it was also a time when techniques developed, activities expanded, and many psychologists became closely involved in practical situations. From the journal, we selected the references to foreign authors in the bibliography section. Using a historiometric approach, we reviewed the following indicators: the most productive foreign authors, the subjects and contents (obtained by means of the main descriptors) and the most widespread journals. Furthermore, we compared the subjects of the five first years of publication with those of the following five. Our aim was to analyze the main influences of foreign psychology on the historic development of the Spanish psychology activities for this Francoist period by considering the political, social and economic circumstances. The psychology activities of the 50s were also conducted in postwar Spain, at the end of the isolation years of the Franco era when attempts were made to develop professional work despite the many disruptions. It was at this time that Juan Zaragueta Bengoechea completed the Barbado project within the framework of scholasticism and following the Lovaina School. He was the director of CSIC’s Instituto Luis Vives de Filosofia at the time when the Instituto Nacional de Psicotecnia and the Instituto Psicotecnico de Barcelona had come into being. Professionals used psychotechnical methods for diagnosis, vocational guidance and psychopathology to respond to the social, health, pedagogic and industrial needs of the Spanish people.
