A phenomenon of our current society is segregation by age. In this paper, the authors examine the problem of ageism and call into question some sociocultural barriers and prevalent attitudes that promote such behavior today in both social and educational environments. Benefits of intergenerational contact in any setting from the home to the school to the community are emphasized. The paper concludes with a brief discussion of some means of bringing together age groups and a description of some of the current projects in this area which have been successful.
