Abstract

IN A DRAMATIC ABOUT‐FACE, the world is discovering that the “Made‐in‐Taiwan” label is a mark of quality and innovation. This turnabout is a design transformation crafted and implemented under the aegis of Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs. Robert and Janet Blaich outline the three overlapping five‐year plans that have made the change a reality and describe elements‐including a design center, themed design seminars, competitions, and methods for transferring design expertise‐that all contribute to the success of what can be characterized as a national design‐management agenda.
