The fourth office development boom in Dublin (1995–2000/2001) has had far‐reaching consequences for the pattern of office development in the metropolitan area. The hallmark of this boom has been the rapid proliferation of offices at peripheral locations and, to a lesser extent, at secondary areas within the city centre. This paper investigates the relative influence of the urban planning context and private property development interests in shaping this new geography of office development and highlights the problematic consequences of this development pattern for the provision of public transport.
