Building Musicianship in the Instrumental Classroom

Abstract

This article discusses instrumental teaching in the classroom, devoting special attention to the development of musical expression in young learners. It considers how best to cultivate expressive music-making, focusing on musical communication in children's first experiences with wind and string instruments, a topic that has received little attention in the literature to date.
