La ingeniería se considera como el arte, la tecnología o la profesión que busca la transformación de los recursos naturales en beneficio de la sociedad, de allá que la actuación\nprofesional del ingeniero debe incluir habilidades, destrezas y hábitos que le permitan ir\nacorde con el avance tecnológico. Sin embargo se observa que en la medida que aparecen\nlos avances científicos y tecnológicos se han generado problemas al medio ambiente y al bienestar social, en general. El ritmo cambiante de la sociedad actual y su entorno demanda\nque los programas universitarios, en este caso el de Ingeniería, se adapten rápidamente\na las necesidades de la sociedad, todo enmarcado en la sustentabilidad. En particular la\nIngeniería Eléctrica, como profesionales encargados de atender de manera general a los\nsistemas eléctricos, el marco del desarrollo sustentable y la dependencia energética, desarrollar nuevas competencias con alta sensibilidad ambiental y social y criterios de eficiencia,\nque le permitan minimizar el efecto de estos sistemas al ambiente y garantizar el bienestar de las generaciones futuras.
