Abstract

Facing the specificities of imagetic documents, we propose some directives for doing documental management of photographical archival materials. The difficulty of the reconstitution of the record production motives impels many of the actual models to begin from visual information as the main reference for documental organization, downgrading archival data. The proving value of first and second documental ages can be in danger if the displayed record is not properly contextualized. Such situation, as well, can challenge the access of permanent documents. Significant authors indicate the need of incorporate origination data in order to avoid an authenticity loss of the photographical records. For an efficient documental management of photographical holdings we interrelated, in the DIGIFOTO project, elements of visual information (based of Panofsky's references), with archival data about structures, functions and activities of the collecting entity. The principles adopted by the DIGIFOTO project shall be systematized in one electronic system for registration, management, description - inspired on ISAD(g) - and access of photographical archival materials.
