Abstract

The U.S. Census Bureau (http://www.census.gov) reported that there were 1,076,872 Koreans residing in the United States as of April 1, 2000. There were 135,571 Korean-owned firms in the United States according to the 1997 Economic Census. Detailed data on the Korean population and Korean-owned firms are available in the census websites and publications. The Department of Justice periodically releases detailed immigration statistics on its website http://www.immigration.gov. Utilizing these statistics, this paper highlights basic characteristics of the Korean population in the United States as of the year 2000.
