A Workshop Tried and True: Language Experience for Bilinguals.

Abstract

IN A SERIES of workshops on language development and read ing for kindergarten and first grade teachers of bilingual children, I had been concentrating on the value of the language experience approach (LEA) for these learners. LEA en courages learning the target language (English) through real experiences and integrates aspects of oral lan guage, listening, reading, and writing. Also, we had been sharing poems, songs, and stories in both Spanish and English that had proven to be successful with five and six year olds.
