A paper clarifying the history and context of the pottery sherds found in the Solomon Islands, and reviewing successive attempts to interpret the origin and significance of the sherds is presented. The Rev. Charles Elliot Fox in the course of road making at Pamua, north coast of San Cristoval, found the sherds and gifted them to the Otago Museum. The Rev. Hubert James Nind found a further 37 sherds and these were donated to the Museum in 1927.
