This paper seeks to contribute to the ongoing debate concerning the role of heterogeneity for the competitive advantage of Industrial Districts (IDs). With this aim, it focuses on different sources of heterogeneity and highlights how the different level of heterogeneity affects the ID performance. This study has been based on an empirical research conducted on 32 Italian District Provinces. A cluster analysis methodology has been applied to process the data collected, in order to highlight whether there is a relation between the level of heterogeneity and the performance of District Provinces and how the different level of heterogeneity affects on the District Province performance.
